Car Insurance MINI (Car Insurance). Looking at buying my first bike.?Looking at buying my first bike.? In buying my first bike I have been doing some shopping around for a while and started talking to dealers about quotes on price and it seems all of them come back with is "Best we can do is MSRP" which at least in dealing with cars is a bunch of bogus. Is this normal with buying bikes and if not how much play should I be looking for the dealer to budge? I'm a little frustrated since most of the dealers that have what I'm looking for are several hours away and I certainly don't want to drive there to haggle and end up walking away because I feel like I'm not getting a fair deal, which I will do even if it ends up flushing a couple hundred dollars in gas money. MSRP is the lowest you can expect from a dealer (maybe a couple hundred under on the bikes over $15k). There's not much profit built into motorcycles like there is in cars. BUT, the dealer is compensated for shipping/delivery AND setup in that MSRP price. Any "fees" above and beyond tag/tax/title are pure, unadulterated profit. Ditto with the extended warranty (I've never heard of anyone needing to use an Extended warranty, having been a mechanic since 2000). You can deal but it is going to be on other things for example my dealer threw in a helmet when I bought my bike and when my daughter traded in her scooter she got the top end of the trade in. By negotiating on things other than the price you can get a good deal or at least one that you are happy with and that is really what a good deal is. If you can go to the International Bike Show when its near you. What bike are you looking for? Auto parts : Garage Storage Acura 1995 . Garage Wall Guard Alfa Romeo 1996 . Gasket Material Audi 1997 . MINI . How to Remove the Automatic Transmission in a 1988 Chevrolet S10 PickupYou might have to remove the transmission in the 1988 Chevrolet S10 pickup if you need to fix a front seal leak or repair the transmission. The bolts in the upper bellhousing are difficult to reach, and many mechanics will lift the body off the frame, but there is a trick to reaching the bolts without going through the hassle of lifting the body. You need a special tool for this procedure, plus tools that the average non-mechanic wouldn't have in his arsenal. Difficulty:Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Set of wrenches Screwdriver Set of sockets 2 Floor jacks Jack stands Drain pan Liquid eraser Set of line wrenches 2 long extensions 2 Universals Converter holding strap No. J-21366 Step by Step : 1 Disconnect the negative battery cable, using the appropriate wrench. Loosen the clamps on the air duct, using the screwdriver. Pull the duct off the air box. Remove the air box, using the appropriate socket. Disconnect the throttle valve cable, or TV cable, from the throttle linkage, using the screwdriver. 2 Raise the truck, using the floor jack, then support it with jack stands. Slide the drain pan under the transmission tailshaft. Remove the driveshaft bolts at the differential. Slide the driveshaft out of the transmission. Disconnect the speedometer cable, the dispstick tube and the shift linkage, using the appropriate socket or wrench. Unplug the wiring harness connectors on the transmission. 3 Remove the support brackets between the transmission and the catalytic converter and between the engine in transmission, using the appropriate socket. Slide the floor jack under the tail of the transmission and jack it up so that it just touches the transmission, just in front of the crossmember. Remove the crossmember, using the appropriate socket. 4 Remove the torque converter cover. Mark the torque converter and the flexplate, so you know how to put the torque converter back on (matchmark). Remove the torque converter bolts, using the appropriate socket. Install the torque converter holding strap to hold the torque converter in the transmission. 5 Remove the transmission-to-engine mount bolts, using the appropriate socket. Remove the mounts from the vehicle. Lower the rear of the transmission just enough so that you can gain access to the cooler lines. Disconnect the cooler lines, using the appropriate line wrench. Cap the lines with a bolt or a rag to keep the fluid from dripping out. 6 Disconnect the TV cable from the transmission, using the appropriate wrench. Support the engine with a floor jack. Remove the bellhousing bolts, using the appropriate socket. For the bolts at the top of the bellhousing, particularly the top left, that are difficult to reach, snap a long extension onto the ratchet, then a universal, then the second long extension, then the second universal, then the appropriate socket. 7 Lower the transmission and the back of the engine enough to sneak the socket onto the bellhousing bolts, taking care not to allow the weight of the transmission to hand on the back of the engine, else you could bend the pilot shaft. Slide the transmission assembly away from the engine.
MINI . How to Change the Transmission on a 1989 Toyota CorollaA transmission is responsible for the conversion of rotating power to a gear device. It turns much like the wheels on the car. Once a transmission is broken, your car can not run. It needs to be fixed immediately and not to be ignored. Difficulty:Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Jack Jack Stands Hoist New Transmission Wrench Step by Step : 1 Prepare your car. Use the jack and jack stands to lift the car a few inches enough only to permit you to move comfortably under the car. Next, for safety precautions, remove the cable connecting to the car's battery to disable it and to keep the car from starting. 2 Loosen the coolant lines and the drive just enough to expose the rear end housing. To do this you must first loosen the two u-bolts that secure the rear end of the drive shaft. Use a wrench to loosen the u-bolts. Once they are loose, use your physical force when you pry the drive shaft just enough to expose the end housing. Once the rear end is on the floor, pull the front of the transmission out of the housing. After that, loosen the coolant lines and clear your workstation of it. 3 Remove the transmission. Loosen the bolts that secure the transmission or gearbox to the motor. Next, hold the transmission firmly and shake it while you pull it towards the car rear. This action will break free the transmission from the motor. Remove the bolts. 4 Remove the torque converter. This is the round thing in the front edge of the transmission. Rotate counter-clockwise it until it unlatches. 5 Install the new transmission by hoisting gently into your vehicle. Place the torque converter on the new transmission. Push the converter to the edge of the transmission and rotate it until you hear a sound that signifies it is tightly secured. Reattach the transmission to the motor. Replace the bolts and make sure that they are very tight. Secure the new transmission with the u-bolts and replace the battery wires. Tips & Warnings When lifting an item as heavy as a transmission, always have assistance. One type of screwholder has a magnet to hold the screw; another (see Figure 2-3) has a little gizmo that grabs the screw when you twist the screwholder. Both are lovely. Figure 2-3: A screwholder can help you get screws into hard-toreach places. Wrenches Wrenches are probably the most basic tools for auto repair. You need a couple of different kinds in different sizes. There are several basic types of wrenches, some for very specialized purposes, but the following sections cover the kinds you need for most jobs. Look for sets made by well-known toolmakers, and try to buy them on sale. (For more pointers on buying tools, see the beginning of this chapter.) The turning of the screw MINI . Then loosen it (counterclockwise). If Remember to keep your temper with difficult this trick doesn't work, tap the screwdriver on screws; otherwise, you risk stripping the the head with a hammer, which may loosen the threads and turning a fairly simple job of replacscrew a bit. If strong-arm tactics aren't getting ing what you've loosened into a hair-puller. .Chapter 2: The Way to Your Car's Heart Is through Your Toolbox Most wrenches are available in both standard — also known as SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) — and metric measurements. You must know which system of measurement your engine is based on. Originally, most for eign vehicles (except British ones, which had their own thread standard) were based on the metric system, while domestic engines used SAE stan dards based on fractions of an inch. Today, most American vehicles have a mix of SAE and metric nuts and bolts. Foreign cars or foreign components MINI . Whay your car stalls when put in gear?

Check your owner's manual or ask your dealer to see whether your vehicle requires metric or standard SAE tools before you buy anything. Combination Frenches When shopping for wrenches, you'll come across open-end wrenches and box-end wrenches, but the very best kind to get are combination wrenches, which have an open end and a closed end on each wrench (see Figure 2-4). These wrenches come in sets of several sizes, and each wrench is made to fit a nut of a specific size, whichever end you use. See the sidebar "How to use MINI . What are cars specifically used for today?

Called offset wrenches, these are good for working in hard-to-reach spots. You may want to add a couple to your tool kit. The most useful offset wrench is the distributor wrench, shown in Figure 2-5, which you use to adjust your car's timing. (You need this tool only if your car has a non-electronic ignition system.) Be sure to get one to fit the distributor hold-down clamp on your vehicle. Part I: Getting Started. Figure 2-5: An offset distributor wrench is probably the most useful offset wrench. MINI .
